This popular kidney cleanse from Dr. Schulze emphasizes raw foods and juice fasting for 5 days as a method of flushing and detoxifying the kidneys in the cleansing process. Prior to undertaking the 5 day kidney cleanse there is a 2 week preparation phase that focusses its attention on the bowels.
Dr. Richard Schulze’s ‘Five-Day Kidney Cleansing and Detoxification Program’ Dr. Schulze’s program entails following a two-day purifying raw foods regime followed by a three-day juice fast. Before you begin on Dr. Schulze’s Program, it is required that you first complete his two-week bowel detoxification program using the Intestinal Correction Formulas #1 and #2 as he has outlined.
Day 1: Upon awakening, drink 8 oz. distilled water. It is actually recommended that you always drink water the first thing in the morning as this will flush left-over food and unneeded digestive juices out of your digestive tract.
Breakfast: Within 1 hour of wakening, prepare the Morning Drink (a kidney & bladder flush)
- Squeeze out the juice of one lemon and one lime
- Combine citrus juice to 16 to 32 ounces of distilled water
- Add a pinch of cayenne pepper
- Optional – Add maple syrup (a little) to taste*
- Morning Drink also goes by the name Master Cleanse

Should you find yourself hungry before lunch time, you may opt to have a piece of fruit, a glass of diluted fruit juice, or a fruit smoothie. However, you will need to stop drinking fruit juice a minimum of one hour before lunch. Note: While following Dr. Schulze’s program, it is best while not to combine fruit and vegetables within a single meal.
Day #1 Lunch Lunch options includes: diluted fresh raw vegetable juices, raw vegetables on their own or within salads, sprouts, potassium broth, and herbal teas. You are permitted to have dressings so long as it is in the form of: olive oil, avocado, raw apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, onions or any blend of herbs and spices.

Drinks Throughout the day and afternoon, you may have diluted vegetable juices, potassium broth and herbal teas. In the evening, you are to limit yourself to diluted fruit juices and herbal tea. It is very important that you consume, at minimum, one gallon (128 oz) of liquid per day. Note: Broken down, that is 8 oz. of water-liquid per hour.
Snacks Options for afternoon snacks include: raw vegetables, salads of raw vegetables, diluted vegetable juices, sprouts, potassium broth and herbal teas. Note: For digestive purposes, all vegetable items must be consumed by 6 p.m.
Potassium Broth Recipe This creation is intended to flush toxins, poisons and unwanted salts and acids out of your body while retaining high doses of vitamins and minerals. Fill a large pot with 25 percent potato peelings, 25 percent carrot peelings and whole chopped beets, 25 percent chopped onions accented by 50 cloves of garlic, and 25 percent celery and dark greens. Add hot peppers to taste. Add enough distilled water to cover vegetables and simmer on very low temperature for between one and two hours. To consume, dip your mug into the mixture and fill it with broth (only broth). If possible, use organic vegetables. This will help to ensure you are not ingesting any chemical substances, toxic pesticides or other manufactured substances. This is important during a detoxification-cleansing program, for you are striving to rid your body of such negative elements.
Day #5: This is the day when you break your fast. You should follow the guidelines for Day #1, beginning with your morning drink and fresh fruit. Be certain to chew the fruit very slowly combining each mouthful with large amounts of saliva. The ‘fast-breaking’ portion of the program is very critical to the program. For that reason, it is important that you chew your food well and eat to the point of satisfaction-not fullness. Should you still be hungry later on, you will always be able to eat additional amounts. After 1:00 p.m., you are permitted to have a small vegetable salad, followed by fruit again in the evening. Everything eaten on Day #5 should be chewed to the point where it becomes liquid pulp.
While Schulze’s program restricts the types of food you are to consume, it does not limit the quantity. Should you find yourself hungry during the detoxification period, you are allowed to consume additional foods and liquids. The program works based upon the premise that the more you eat and drink, the harder your body works to flush out toxins. n order to ensure your kidneys stay clean, it is suggested that you repeat Dr. Schulze’s program once every three months.
